Hello Guys!!!

Today I will discuss with you all about DENTAL STAINS

Yes, I understand that all sorts of stains in our teeth generally creates some stigma among us. But if we can understand the reasons behind those stains, then we would not to worry that much & seek professional help whenever needed.

First of all, we have to know that dental stains are categorized as:
1. Intrinsic Stains
2. Extrinsic Stains

We will come to know them one by one now.....😀


INTRINSIC STAINS


The intrinsic stains arise due to causes arising within the oral cavity or the whole body in a few instances. This can also be as side effects of some drugs.

These stains do not occur on a regular basis. so most of them are rare.

COLOR CHANGES OF TEETH

 

 

Aging

Yellow-brown

Death of pulp (Non-Vital tooth)

Gray-black

Fluorosis

White-yellow or Yellow-brown

Tetracycline

Minocycline

Blue-gray

Internal resorption

Pink tooth of Mummery

Dentinigenesis  Imperfecta

Blue-gray

Amelogenesis  Imperfecta

Yellow-brown

Congenital Porphyra

Yellow or Brown-red

Erythroblastosis Fetalis

Yellow-green

Jaundice

Yellow-green

Lepromatous Leprosy

Pink or Red




EXTRINSIC STAINS


These stains occur due to external agents with stain causing properties. Majority of them are induced by various oral micro organisms.

Extrinsic stains are very common in children. Adults are affected too. 

We will look into the picture below to see the stains and know the reasons behind them.
